Creativity

Before new media existed, companies had to involve outside consultants to bring in new ideas and improvements to their company. In this day and age, people make it very clear what they like and don't like. (referring to Facebook likes)
In the New York Times article "Twitter Serves Up Ideas From Its Followers", we see specific examples of how new media has made a company more profitable. Who needs to hire a creative staff to implement new designs when people would do it for FREE on the Lego site? This had to have saved the company millions. They obtained the most creative and diverse ideas without having to pay for it. Brilliant.
I have been thinking about this for a long time now as so many companies have used Facebook or their personal site to create a DIY (do it yourself) design. When designing a new sneaker on NikeID, you have to accept their terms. These terms include that they can do whatever they want with your design. They show a ton of the latest sneakers made just as you are about to generate one of your own "IDs". Users should not be surprised to see their design as a new sneaker if it generates enough likes on Facebook! Market research has never been easier than it is now with new media. People are voluntarily putting in "creative work" for companies while they sit there and compile market research.
